ThermoSeed
ThermoSeedTM is a unique innovative treatment for effective control of seed-borne pathogens by the use of hot humid air. It provides sound and healthy seeds with optimum germination and crop yield. The uniqueness of ThermoSeed lies in a combination of state-of-the-art process engineering, seed biology and seed processing technology.
Seed disinfection
Globally there is an increasing demand for sustainable and responsible crop production processes. ThermoSeed improves the quality and adds value to seed as a starting point for an efficient production of crops.
ThermoSeedTM was developed in Sweden in the nineties and has undergone rigorous testing under various climatic conditions worldwide with remarkable and consistent results. For a number of years cereal growers have benefited from this treatment and it has proven to be extremely efficient and reliable.
It is now well established that ThermoSeed is a highly effective and environmentally friendly disinfection method. Following this success ThermoSeed is now also being developed for use in vegetable seeds.
Main advantages
• Excellent control of fungal pathogens
• Seed vigor, as well as root and plant development, often significantly improved
• Secures a high field emergence, crop density and yield
• Cost effective
Long-term experience
Thanks to more than ten years of research, a process has been developed that creates conditions selectively controlling the pathogens, without affecting germination. The process has been in commercial use since 2003.
Maximum quality control
Careful pre-testing to determine the characteristics of each seed lot is carried out routinely in order to optimize the process for the individual seed lot. These pre-treatment tests and the regulation of the parameters are carried out with exceptional precision. This maximizes effectivity and guarantees full quality control.
Available throughput
ThermoSeed processing equipment is available with capacities ranging from 10 kg up to 25.000 kg per hour.
Further advantages
• Environmentally friendly
• Reduced environmental impact on food production
• Customers report reduced levels of DON in the harvested grain
• The extremely clean seed is a great advantage for the seed industry
• The working environment is considerably improved
• Leftover treated seed can be used as feed
• Reduced disposal costs for the seed industry
• Facilitates logistics on the farm
• Competitive in both conventional and organic agriculture
• Control of grain storage insects
New developments in vegetable seed
Having proven its qualities in field crops, much effort was made to adjust this method to other crops. The positive results received have now encouraged us to expedite the commercial ThermoSeed treatment also of vegetable seeds.
