Disinfection of seed borne diseases

Raw seed Primed Primed and disinfected

Disinfection is being done to eradicate seed borne diseases. There are many treatments available in the market (liquids, temperature and gases) to target both external & internal seed borne diseases. Although most of them can successfully eradicate external seed borne pathogens, only a few can successfully eradicate the internal ones without negatively affecting the speed of emergence and final stands.

As a result, the process of disinfection should be treated as combination of 2 techniques: in one hand it is necessary to subject the seeds to critical incubating stages that could be very stressful on the seeds; while in the other hand, a neutralization process is blended to assure that the final seed quality remains at the best possible commercial levels.

Our Disinfection Research Program targets those difficult internal pathogens. Initiated in the early nineties, this program has led us to the development of our very successful eXccit product line.

This state of the art technology optimizes both disinfection and quality parameters to overcome those negative disinfection effects. As a result, eXccit has practically eradicated Xanthomonas Campestris pv campestris (Black Rot) on Brassica. Since then, this technology have been successfully adapted to eradicate other seed borne pathogens in crops like Tomato & Pepper (Xcv), Carrot (Xcc) and leek (Ps pv porre). In light of the complexity and importance of the “internal seed borne diseases”, our Research Program is constantly updating and developing disinfection technology (in-house and external) to address the actual/local needs of the end seed user.
