The process of film coating involves the application of a thin layer of a polymer binder often in combination with other components onto the seed-coat. These other components may include color and/or effect pigments and a variety of additives and/or actives.

The objectives of film coating seeds may include the safe, accurate and dustfree incorporation of seed treatment chemicals, the addition of nutrients or plant strengtheners, the inclusion of colorants and/or the improvement of the plantability of seeds.

Film coating technology is based on 2 major elements, the coating formulation and the application system.

Dependant on the total application rates, the application systems may include film coating without drying, film coating with post drying or filmcoating with simultaneous drying.

With regards to the formulation technology INCOTEC has a long history in research and development. This has resulted in a broad range of water based liquids for both high value, low volume vegetable seeds and low value, large volume agricultural seeds, which are marketed under the name “Disco”. Major differences are in water solubility of polymer system, binding strength, level of color and effect pigments and presence of functional additives.
Next to that INCOTEC offers service film coating at several of it’s locations under the product name “Vision”. On demand seeds can be colored and/or coated with additives and actives such as the novel insecticides.
