The aim of upgrading is to obtain maximum uniformity and germination potential. Seeds that do not germinate or produce weak seedlings are removed and the seed lot is sized. If necessary, upgrading can be preceded by a cleaning process, to remove foreign material.

In upgrading, a range of techniques can be applied that separate seeds on characteristics like shape, width, length, color and density. In addition, INCOTEC is constantly looking into new technologies, that can be used as upgrading tools, e.g. X-ray.

INCOTEC has various upgrading techniques available, which are marketed under the name Improver.

A special process, Purifier, has been developed for the separation of inbreds or off- types.
