Data-driven seed technology

AI is already widely used in agriculture, spanning everything from crop monitoring to seed selection.

What is AI in agriculture?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agriculture means using advanced technologies like machine learning and data analytics to improve farming practices. It is already widely used, spanning everything from crop monitoring to seed selection. For example, AI can help predict crop yields, monitor soil health, or automate irrigation systems. In the area of seed technology, applications include optimizing seed selection and refining seed enhancement technologies.

How is AI used in seed technology?

At Incotec, innovation starts with data, but not just any data. High-quality, context-rich data is essential for smarter decisions and better outcomes, so that growers and seed producers benefit from more effective seed enhancement technologies. As global leader in seed technology, we provide tailored, reliable, and sustainable solutions by embedding data-driven approaches across our portfolio.

Our seed technologies [link to Seed technologies pg], like pelleting, film coating and encrusting, are designed to meet the specific needs of our customers and their crops. A core part of our expertise lies in how we use data to refine these technologies and ensure consistent performance.

AI-powered seed enhancement in action

X-ray sorting system: Our X-ray seed sorting system is powered by an AI model trained to detect internal seed quality. This advanced system improves the germination rate of your seed lots through highly accurate selection of the best performing seeds. It is a clear demonstration of how artificial intelligence, when applied with purpose and precision, can deliver measurable added value for customers.

Improving formulation recipes: By sorting images based on coating performance, the Abrasion Resistance Analyser (our proprietary data-driven digital tool) uses image-based analysis to evaluate seed coatings. Based on the outcome, it generates actionable data that supports the smarter development of seed coatings with the best possible coverage and durability.

Optimizing coating performance: Our Abrasion Resistance Analyser also provides data that enables intelligent matching of coating technologies with specific seed types. This ensures that each combination delivers the best possible results in terms of protection, handling, and field performance.

Responsible AI use in seed technology

While AI and digital tools offer powerful capabilities, we recognize that AI is not a solution in itself. Its success depends on the quality of the data and the expertise guiding how it is used. At Incotec, we focus on responsible and purposeful use of digital methods, ensuring they are grounded in scientific understanding and practical relevance.

Turning data into seed performance

As more and more AI tools for agriculture becoming available, we know the most effective digital solutions result from working closely with our customers. By aligning our technologies with their specific needs and challenges, we aim to provide data-driven innovations that are not only technically advanced but also truly impactful.

Incotec’s commitment to data-driven innovation is setting the standard in seed technology. As we move forward, this will continue to be rooted in science, shaped by collaboration, and focused on what works.
